Aguero: Manchester City can measure up to Real Madrid and Barcelona

Sergio Aguero has insisted that he has no plans to leave Manchester City in the summer, and stated his belief that the club will soon be on par with La Liga duo Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Argentina international enjoyed a dream debut season at City, helping the club to its first Premier League title, a first league triumph since 1968, with 23 goals. His performances have not gone unnoticed in Europe, with Madrid understood to be weighing up a move, but Aguero has committed his future to City, saying that the club will be part of the European elite.

Monchengladbach signs Xhaka from Basel

Monchengladbach has completed the signing of Granit Xhaka from Basel, the Bundesliga club revealed on its official website. The 19-year-old had been closely linked with Lucien Favre's side in recent weeks, and on Friday put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will expire in 2017. "We competed with a number of top European clubs in our efforts to sign Granit Xhaka, and are happy that we managed to get him to Borussia," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said.

German finance minister calls for EU elected president

The European Union needs to create the post of an elected president to foster greater political unity, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said today as the bloc faces deep economic and political problems.Mr Schaeuble has proposed a mechanism for using the European parliament elections to choose the president of the European Commission.

"Europe must have a face," Mr Schaeuble said in the western German city of Aachen as he accepted this year's Charlemagne Prize, one of Europe's most prestigious awards given for promoting European causes.

Thaci-Wammen: European integration, priority of government

In a meeting with the Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark on European Affairs Nicolai Wammen the Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci spoke about the process Kosovo integration into the EU, and on the latest developments in the region. In his declaration, Thaci said Kosovo will all its obligations in a record deadline so that the close in becomes as real as it can get.  Dutch Minister Wammen on the other hand said that there is no doubt that the future of Kosovo is in the European Union.
